Comments The Japanese associate the koi fish (carp) with life’s struggles. The fish is portrayed graphically swimming upstream against a strong current. As man’s life progresses, he (like the koi) encounters obstacles which challenge his strength and tenacity to survive and attain his goals.

In addition to life’s struggles, the koi is also symbolic of steadfastness, commitment to marriage and general good fortune.
