Item E-Gasuri
(picture kasuri)

Crane (tsuru), Turtle (kame) and geometric images Futon Cover Panel.

Japanese are very fond of an old proverb, "Cranes live 1,000 years, turtles 10,000." The crane and the turtle are mystical and holy creatures which symbolize good fortune, prosperity, happiness and longevity.

The exceptional features about this e-gasuri textile are the added kanji character images which mean "10,000 years" (turtle) & "1,000 years" (crane) which highlight the traditional symbols of longevity (and good fortune) connected to these 2 animals.
