Otafuku (old woman) and tsuru (crane)

Otafuku is a dumpy, homely, cheery faced figure who is also a bringer of happiness. At some shrines, she is given out as an engimono (good luck charm). Otafuku also is considered a fertility symbol. The images shows Otafuku as she appears as a ceremonial mask.

Cranes are an auspicious symbol representing long life, good fortune, marital love and fidelity. These birds pair for life.
