(picture kasuri)

Unusual Lion (shishi) Motif. This textile image represents the granite or wood shishi lions guardians at Buddhist Temple entrances. The shishi possesses magical properties and the powers to repel evil spirits. The image depicted here is also known as koma-inu, the closed-mouthed lion which held in good spirts. It is typically paired with the open-mouth koma-inu which fights off unwanted bad spirits.
