Comment (con't) Boy's Day was originally called Tango no Sekku, celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th moon of the Chinese calendar. After Japan's switch to the Gregorian calendar, the date was moved to May 5. Although it is not known precisely when this day started to be celebrated but probably during the reign of the Empress Suiko (593-628 A.D.). Tango no Sekku was originally assigned to the fifth day of the fifth month after the Japanese Nara period.
