Hand Carved & Painted Wooden Female Noh Mask (Waka-onna?), With Cotton Boro Fragment
Noh is a traditional form of classical Japanese musical theater that has been performed since the 14th century. Most characters are masked, with men playing male and female roles.
Noh performance is extremely codified, and regulated by a traditional head master along with an elaborate hierarchical system, with an emphasis on preserving traditional Noh acting & style rather than innovation.

Excellent condition. Missing final detail hairline paint and clear coating finish. Dramatic nonetheless.
