Momohiki were worn mostly by men. Women at times wore momohiki but a different style than the momohiki shown here. The momohiki were designed to fit snugly around the legs, similar to modern-day leggings. They have open upper sides that close around the hips to form the seat when the long ties that act as an adjustable belt are tied together. The wearer used an undergarment and an overgarment (usually a hanten jacket) with the momohiki.
